A Story I heard-is this true?

Postby Billy Kingsley » Tue May 23, 2006 10:24 am

I was told by a friend that one of the missing Tuckers was transported to Europe and was cut in two, the rear doors removed and put back together to make a hot rod by someone who didn't know what they had...Is that true? I really hope not, I hope that my friend was mistaken.

I thought there were only about 2 that were un-accounted for as well...

And I didn't see anything on the page with all of them, but, if there is something, I may have missed it.

Thanks in advance!

Richard Jones would know for sure, but I've not heard anything like that before. The only car it could posssibly would be the one that disappeared in Memphis, and that was in the 1950s.

A Story I Hear- Is it True?

Postby plancor 792 » Thu May 25, 2006 3:32 pm

This is a new one on me. Through the years I've heard just about every tale there is on lost or misplaced or stolen Tucker's. The latest I had heard was that Tucker 1035 disappeared from Sao Paulo, Brazil and was headed for Europe. The person who relayed this to me promised to keep me posted as he was to purchase it once it arrived in Europe. Said he was concerned with paper work on the car and that is the last I heard of him. Messages have not been answered so I don't know what is going on. 1035 was in sorry shape in Brazil. Engine had been removed and they had tried to put an engine in the front of it. They tore out the interior and looks like they tried to install an Oldsmobile steering wheel and colum in the car. They also did work on the fenders. What I call "Frenching" them.
That is all I know at this time.
Thanks
Richard

Richard, do you know where in Europe the car was supposed to be headed? I've got some contacts in that part of the world who might be able to find something out, since they'd be more local than you or I are.

Thanks for the information! I would chalk this one up as "Urban Legend"...

Well you can call it an urban legend... but if you take a look at Car Kulture DeLuxe # 3 you'll see the story exactly like your friend told you.

Here is a link to the magazine. The fifth line down reads, The Missing Tucker. I wouldn't mind reading it.

I managed to get a copy of this off eBay for next to nothing. I'm glad no one shelled out the big money for the issue. The article is a humor piece, and in no way true. The car is supposedly 1042 and was "purchased" by a Norwegian gentleman who let it sit after shipping it to Europe. His "grandson" did the "chop job" years later. I have to say that the Photoshop job is pretty good for the most part. If I can get my scanner working, I'll post a scan of it.

hehe, yeah it is a funny story :) But one year after the story was written the "grandson" did manage to buy one of the Movie replicas of ebay..... and his only mission in life is to make a car like the one in the humor article... kinda funny yes
